Short-term rentals webinar update

The Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) tries hard to ensure you, our valued members, are kept up to date about emerging issues within the condominium community, locally, provincially and on the national scene. One such an issue that has captured the attention of many in our community is that of Short-Term Rentals (STRs).

Welcome to the initial article about the CCI Manitoba Management Advisory Committee. We're excited to share this initiative. Let's dive into what's been happening and how you can get involved.

When buying or selling a condominium, disclosure statements play a crucial role in providing the buyer with relevant information about the property and the condominium corporation. Two sources of information for prospective buyers and sellers are from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Canadian Condominium Institute.  Proper disclosure can also insulate both the seller and buyer from costly errors if disclosure is questioned.  

Continuing with recent articles about condominium living with the goal of building community and environmentally sensitive living, we have written about electric cars and native plants. This article offers thoughts about organic food waste and composting.

In the Fall 2021 newsletter editions (Field Notes from a Condo Corpo Treasurer https://cci-manitoba.ca/cci-manitoba-magazine/article/18, page 12) Alan Forbes wrote about a Manitoba Hydro Rebate Program for eligible customers. It was discussed again in the Condo Conversation Corner feature of the Winter 2022 edition and included details on eligibility (Check your Manitoba Hydro Bill, page 20 https://cci-manitoba.ca/cci-manitoba-magazine/article/1). If you pay your own Hydro bill you are likely eligible for a reduction of taxes applied to your hydro account and rebate of taxes paid at the higher rate. Who doesn’t love rebates and lower taxes?

If you've experienced a water leak, you might be ahead in the water leak detection game. Prior experience of discovering a water leak, cleaning up the mess, dealing with repairs and insurance is not something anyone wants to repeat. Motivation is never so keen as when you’re ankle deep in water.

In this article, we want to explore a condominium solar panel project.  To that end, we found Bruce Mackenzie, who in 2015 was the Central Park Condominium President in Victoria, BC.  As a self-professed “energy geek”, he decided the time was right to explore solar panels for his Victoria, BC condominium.  ¹
